There are a few things you need to know immediately about Italy (and how she feeds herself) in order not to go hungry. First, most stores (including grocery stores) close from 13-16:00 for what’s called la pausa, “the [midday] pause.” restaurants and cafés remain open but stores don’t, other than the coop mini-supermarket in Piazza Matteotti, which is open during the pausa. The Coop has a sign in red, at number 15a in the Piazza. Stores are usually open until 20:00 but are mostly closed on Sunday. The exceptions to this (for Sunday grocery shopping) are listed under domenica in the buying food section.
